La magia del mondo sommerso.

The protected sea area of Villasimius was established in 1998.

It spreads out in the extreme part of the south-east of Sardinia, almost forming an ideal triangle, and it comprehends a territory and a variety of sea species of priceless value.

It aims to respect and protect the ecosystem, promoting a fruitful social-economic development.

The area has been divided into three zones according to the species there living:

integral, general or partial reserve, where all the activities that might compromise the perfect balance of nature, such as hunting, fishing and dumping are prohibited.

In the past the sea of Villasimius was a passage for the people who made deals with the maritime towns of the continent and was also an excellent shelter from the winds for the mercantile boats.

What is really worth the attention today is the underwater world which keeps the testimonies of the man’s presence, such as the relicts of some wrecked ships which can be visited thanks to appropriate “blue itineraries”.
Moreover, the depths count the presence of many species of sea flora and fauna, such as “pinna nobilis” and “posidona oceanica”. It all has a fundamental value and importance in order to let everybody enjoy this extraordinary underwater show in the future.
